Web consultant for hire!

Hiya folks! I've been a bit lazy on doing blog posts for a while now, I've been meaning to do one for several weeks now, but life has gotten in the way (and the need for sleep I'm guessing). But now is the time for some random announcements and ramblings!

I've kept true to my promise when it comes to the daily art and posted at least one piece a day since the start of 2015, you can see them all over at the Artwork database, but I'll post my favorites since the last blog post here as wel1 :)

Also, as the post title tries to say, I'm looking for work! Not full time work (as I've already have one of those) but the odd-job web consulting kind of work, to fill out my budget some, after the holidays I got pretty much broke, so I need to put some extra effort into life to balance things out.

I'm not making any money on my artistry at the moment, and I'm unable to produce prints and such until I have some funds to do this with, so this is the main reason for me to seek out other jobs to do on my free time, and for this I've made a neat looking consultant page to list my specialization areas. You can find this page in the menu, or go directly to it: Web Consulting.

So if you're in the position where you'd need help with anything that falls under my proffession, be sure to give write me a couple of lines and we'll take it from there!

Back to the artsy stuff then. I've been a busy badger when it comes to my charcoal sketching. I've even managed to squeeze a watercolor piece into the mix, so I'm feeling happy with the daily accomplishment so far, here's 5 of my favorites since the last blog post

Started a week with some portrait drawings, really need to work on facial features and foundation techniques.

Corvus Corax! Such a beutiful bird, need to do more sketches in the same style! It was fast and dirty, and charcoal tend to look great when working sloppy!

Wanted to do more conceptual sketches for a while, it started out with this fellah, a ghoulish cosmonaut!

You should pretty well know now that I'm a hellbent Hellraiser fan! Needed to give this fellah some love! :) Butterball made his way into the lot to!

After realizing that my economic situation was bad I had to make a happy sketch to contemplate my situation, and this guy is the result :)

I've managed to do so many pieces since last post, so I beefed up the top list to 5 instead of 3, hope it's okay. And be sure to hook me up with work if you have it!

Until next time, Cheerz!

First week of dailies

A week of the new year has gone past, and the daily art promice has been kept, I've gotten some sort of a routine on this now, and I'm confident that I can hold this up for the rest of the year, with some missteps from now and then of course. I even managed to squeeze in two sketches on day 5, so that's a good sign.

I'm working on the site as always, but right now it feels like a great base where I can post my art, and spread it around. So I'm starting to think about what to do next. It feels like I need to get some sort of products up soon, I want to sell my art, and things containing my art, so I will look into ways of doing this asap, it'll probably start with something simple as postcards. I have a couple paintings done that would do good in that format. So I need to check pricing and such for printing a batch and see if it sells. I don't want to use any 3:rd party solutions, so I'll look for local printshops and see if I can get a nice price for doing a batch. More about that when I know about the possibilites.

The daily art is up for sale at a fixed price of 250:- (that's swedish kroner, approx. $32 or €27). So if you're interested in one of them, just send me a mail. Here's a rundown of my favorite 3 pieces of the week!

First face of the year, I've been experimenting with charcoal for a while now, and I'm always pushing it a bit to far most times, but now I've taken it a step back and keep myself to one layer (earlier I've been working in a lot of layers, fixating the charcoal each round to be able to work in a levels of darkness to pump up the contrast).

You can never draw to many figure studies, this first week has had this as a main theme. Talking about themes, I will try to concentrate on specific themes each week, this week was figure drawing, next week I will try to keep to portraits as much as possible. (started that some this past week though).

After seeing the latest Hobbit I just had to do some creature sketching. This one is some sort of troll. First graphite drawing of the year as well!

Well that's all for this weeks roundup, be sure to keep an eye on the artwork page for daily updates!

Happy New Year - 2015 resolution

Heya folks! Happy New Year to all of y'all from ol' Glenn! Hope you're all having a great time and that the holidays have been nice to ye and yer bellies (I've surelly put on some weight during these past weeks).

As you might have notices, I've been putting down a whole lot of work on this site during the holidays, kickin' it up to shape to take on what's coming this year, and it's a lot, at least from my perspective. I've promised myself to keep busy at the art side of my life this year as well. It will really be the year when I put in the high gear and get my art stuff on the road. I might have mentioned the exhibition that is planed later this fall. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. I will keep an active presence at the major social networks. And I can thank the website for that as I've been really focusing on getting all the needed functionalities to share over different networks.

You can see the fruit of my work on blog posts and artworks, as I've added sharing functionality for all the major social networks.

I have also come up with a great new years resolution that I will try to hold on to as good as I can manage, and this is that I do at least one sketch a day for the whole year, bringin in 365 sketches all in all. I will probably cheat sometimes, but I'll try hard to get square when I do and double the effort when and if I skip a day.

That brings me to todays daily sketch, starting out the year with a figure sketch. I really need to do more reference work and get my hands up to speed. These buggers shouldn't take as long as they are doing at this moment, so there will be a lot of these on the daylies.

Site Update: As I mentioned before, I've been beefing up the sharing on the site, but I've also done some work on the backend, getting some sweet google analytics data directly to my administrative dashboard. Hopefully I can get some insightfull information from this that will help me to manage this site even better. I'm also experimenting some with google adword to get the word out to people that might be interested in my kind of art! And saying that, don't be afraid to spread the word and artworks around! There's lot's of sharing options available. And if you think somethings missing, be sure to give me a hollar and I might fix it!

That's all for now, but I'll keep ye updated with more daily sketches, and major works when they become available.

Have a great new year, and keep it awesome!

Top 5 of 2014 & site news

2014 is gasping for it's last breath, so I thought this would be the perfect moment for some retrospection for the year soon to pass. I've been a busy badger indeed, setting out at last new year to make 2014 a really artsy year. I've had my ups and downs during the year. But I've been pretty productive if you add it all up. So here follows a list of my personal top 5 favorites when it comes to my art creation in no specific order(trying not to be too narcistic).

The Schizophreniac is one of my favorite oil paintings this year, I was pondering on if I liked the Landscape painting more, but this one keeps getting back to me as it hangs on my wall. It's chaotic, unspecific, and you can make out whatever you wish from it. Something I really try to accomplish as an artist for my art. Art is for and by the beholder. He/She creates worlds from within it's borders, and weaves it's psyche, thus make it reality outside the artist mind.

The Awakening did not start out as it ended. I tryed to set my subject in the center of the image, but this kind of composition seems burdensome for me. So it ended up being a struggle betwixt light and dark. I guess the compositional theme of the image is something that attracts me.

During the year I have been struggling a lot with rendering faces. Starting of with basic geometrical forms seems to help, and sometimes it makes for a interesting subject, as seen in Mr Sphere Head. Here I've used a rendering technique that I've developed during the year, using kneaded easer to get my highlights out! I will continue developing this technique during 2015 for sure!

Witch and Dragon started out as a quick sketch that I immediatly found that I wanted to develop to something more solid. I did a couple of more sketches and then sat down to do a fine rendering in A4. This one ended up as a anniversery gift for my girlfriend, and I might revisit the theme for something that I can use for printing later on.

The Jinn has been an inspirational force in my artistic life for quite some time, the concept behind the race of the jinn is absolutely intriguing to say the least, and the connections to other mythical creatures from around the world is hard to deny. They are powerfull creatures that roam realms outside visible reality, but shows themself in places that they hold as their domain. Woe those who tread without causion.

Those are the top 5 favorites for this year! I probably could've filled a top 10 list, but it feels like that would have made the post a wee bit long and hard to go throug. Here follows some news and updates for the site, and what to expect from upcoming updates!

General Updates: I've had quite a busy time during the Yule celebrations. I've been hard at work on the site, polishing design and making the site more usefull when it comes to social engagement. I've fixed meta tags and rich tagging for the page that needs them (blog posts and artwork) so that sharing content from this site will be a bit more enjoyfull.

I have also connected this site to all my social network pages (Facebook, Twitter, Google+) so that these networks will post updates that happen on the site. This will simplify administration for me as we thread into a hektic year. I want to concentrate on producing art 2015, so it would be really nice to have a central point from which I can reach out to the different communities that have interest in what I do. Hopefully this will get some traction and open up my art for a wider audience.

Next step for the website is to add functionality for Galleries (collections of artworks) and music, with playlists. I've been medling with audio since forever, so it would be nice to be able to showcase this as well on the site. But it has to be done right, I'll probably end up writing a custom audio player boosted by HTML5 standard (the basic player don't fit well with the sites general estetic in my taste, and I'm picky with those sort of things). Can't give any release dates on this, but it will come soon enough.

Other than that I'm hoping to get started with drawing some new stuff soon! There's still holiday musts to be done, but I'll do my best to squeeze in some artsy stuffs in the small hours. So keep yer peepers pealed for updates!

That's all for now folks! Glad you could come and join me for this top 5 of 2014! And don't be afraid to hook up! Check out my social networks over at the contact page!

Sharing and other features

Work on the site is coming along real nice, I've had some time to work on making all the parts of the site look good on mobile devices, they say that you should always do mobile first when designing a website, but I had a good desktop base to start from, so mobile had to come last on this one.

I have also written a RSS generator so that the site can update external sources in a smooth maner, this complete with Image tags so that the updates will give as good a view of the actuall post as it can, will be looking into other syndication solutions later (Atom feeds and whatnot, always nice to have the functionality built into the framework.).

To make this complete I've also done some work to optimize the different pages on the site for Facebook sharing, with correct Open Graph tags to the different pages available here in. I will do some more work on sharing later and add Twitter, Pintrest and other services if I see them important for the site.

Sadly I won't be posting anything artsy parsty t'day, as I'm not at home working them pencils, but this will change come 2015 as I'm putting down a strict new years promise that will set me on the path of getting a lot of art done during the year. I'm having an exhibition planned for fall 2015, so I better keep being productive till this event starts. More update on that when it's getting close though.

Until then I wish you all good holidays, and don't be afraid to test out the new sharing capabilities on the site! (induvidual blog posts and artworks will have a neat little facebook share button on the bottom of the article.).
